Project CHILD was developed by a team of education experts at the Center for Instructional Development and Services (CIDS) at the Florida State University College of Education in 1986. Dr. Sarah M. (Sally) Butzin created the CHILD instructional design and served as the principal investigator during the research and development phase at CIDS. Dr. Butzin continued to provide creative oversight during subsequent revisions and ongoing development of supplemental materials until her retirement in 2010.
